RE: Forum polls...again (Re: Msg 61864)

We often get comments from people about the demo seeming "slow". This is
because they are usually checking out the demo document. This is a very
complex document with a lot of rulers and a lot of other things (tables,
graphics, etc.). Most documents that you produce will not be nearly as
complex. And most of the time you spend in a word processor is spend in
editing a document, not scrolling around in a finished work.
If you want to get an idea of Calligrapher's speed during normal use, try
creating a new document and using it as you would normally use it. You'll
find that it keeps up with your typing as fast as you can type. Under
certain circumstances, other parts of the display will not be redrawn until
you pause in your typing. I find this to be a very intelligent design
because it does exactly as you'd like -- update the screen by priority of
importance.
Naturally, the faster your computer, the faster Calligrapher will be, just
like Pagestream or Calamus.
Our best endorsement comes from Al Fasoldt. Besides writing a regular
syndicated newspaper column, he uses and _teaches_ word processors on PCs,
Macs, and Atari computers. His favorite word processor is Calligrapher,
which he chooses over even Word for Windows, Word Perfect for Windows, and
the top Mac word processors.
